There were a lot of German watercolors with houses and churches, most of them we brought to Moscow, but some were given away in Germany to new friends, to the Böll Foundation. The four oils that he managed to make were not easy for Yuriy Nikolayevich, he complained about the quality of the canvas and, in general, was not very happy with those works. Therefore, it turned out that the greatest German work is the canvas "Three Houses", which is now kept in the Russian Museum. There were a lot of German watercolors with houses and churches, most of them we brought to Moscow, but some were given away in Germany to new friends, to the Böll Foundation. Among our Italian friends there was one very interesting pair: gray-haired, venerable pensioner at the head of a communist cell in the province of Veneto; and, apparently, the only member of this cell, the local millionaire. Every day these two were coming to take Yuriy Nikolayevich out: they showed towns with a long history, talked about their adventures, drove to Vicenza to find new watercolor paints that would correspond to this place. Among our Italian friends there was one very interesting pair: gray-haired, venerable pensioner at the head of a communist cell in the province of Veneto; and, apparently, the only member of this cell, the local millionaire. The story about the uninteresting to Yuriy Nikolayevich beauty of the Swiss mountains is not the one-time thing. He had a very special vision, and therefore the landscapes, which are considered to be impressive, did not mean a thing to him. Once our Italian friends going to Asiago - one of the favorite places among Italians to go in the countryside. As those places were close to Switzerland this added the resemblance of Alpine meadows to the local nature, but Yuriy Nikolayevich was completely unimpressed by the idyllic landscape. But the local bazaar of traditional copper utensils impressed Yuriy Nikolayevich a lot, and at home, in his studio, painted the famous “Jar from Asiago”. But I could not sleep, and that is why I went out to find some places from which I could get something. The city is covered by gorgeous greens. Small houses are entwined with grapes. As it was difficult for him to walk around, the plot for “South Night” had to be found on the premises of the boarding house. That was a poplar with well-defined by a flashlight bottom part.
