The 9 banded Armadillo is not native to Florida. They have bony plates (actually made of bone) that cover its legs, head and body (everything except the ears & belly). They have nine, flexible bands across the midsection, which allows it to be relatively nimble.They range in color from brownish-black to gray. The ears are very long & its snout is long and pig-like. It has short, stout legs with sharp, curved claws used for digging. They have peg-like teeth in the back (no front teeth).
