The Karachays or Alans are Turkic speaking people of the North Caucasus, mostly situated in the Russian Karachay–Cherkess Republic. They constitute the one nation with the Balkars (Karachai-Balkars) and they are direct descendants of the Turkic-speaking part of the Alans.
