Ottoman yataghan / yatagan sword , mid to late 19th century. The blade is forged in the classical Ottoman structure of twisted steel rods in a pattern known as Turkish Ribbon. The grip is horn. The interesting part is the wood scabbard, carved in a North African style, may be Algerian, very similar to the wood carving of Flyssa swords from the area. Blade 23 inches. Ottoman (Balkan) yatagan handled dagger 18th century, with European made triangular etched blade, the scabbard is made of wood with low grade silver mounts decorated with 98 gems, the yatagan shaped grip is of bone with silver rib decorated with large corals. Overall length is 21", blade length is 15".
