G A R D E N I A . carinata deconstructed + a red weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) Unwittingly I disturbed a red weaver ant nest collecting these specimens from a Malaysian tree Gardenia. Wthin seconds I was covered from head to toe in ants and being aggressively attacked, not only do these guys bite, they spray formic acid into the wounds too - It was totally worth it though, a new Gardenia ID for me is a total thrill and the scent of the flowers utterly sublime. #gardeniacarinata…
