Conceived in rush hour traffic in 1983 by Tony Baxter, Splash Mountain was originally developed for Disneyland's Bear Country under the name Zip-a-Dee River Run. The idea of putting a flume ride in Disneyland was thought to be beneath Disney standards by many. Song of the South was a saving element that helped the project move forward.
