I thought the idea of incremental punishment is good, gradually prolonging the loss of recess time gives teachers and students room to work and improve before giving them a harsh consequence for misbehaving based on the level of misbehavior.

Been using this method for twenty years! Much success with classroom management and having the children accept responsibility for behavior. I also have a sheet which accompanies this, and the students record their own behavior as well. A small prize is awarded at the end of the week if each student stays on green all week! :)
