The Peacock Clock at the Winter Palace is another not-to-be-missed piece of art, housed in the Pavilion Hall of the Small Hermitage ...  For more than 2 centuries now the Hermitage has been adorned by this 18th century unique exhibit that never fails to evoke the enchanted admiration of visitors. It consists of a glided peacock on a branch, a rooster, and an owl in a cage and still functions in its original unaltered condition.

ANNE LOPUKHINA, mistress of Pavel I of Russia, son of Catherine The Great. She was of the same noble family as the first wife of Peter The Great. Pavel met her at the grand ball and fall in love with her madly. Anne did not like the position of mistress and never used Pavel's love for her wealth. Known that Pavel found her the husband basing on her feelings but the marriage was not happy: her groom simply used her. After Pavel was killed she left for Italy where died young at the age of 27.
