Nadia Colburn | Writer, Teacher, Yogi, Activist
Poetry is a powerful medium to pair with a mindfulness practice. A poem invites us to slow down, to pay attention, and to be present. Jade Flower Palace, written by Tu Fu, is one of my favorite mindful poetry. This mindful poem can be enjoyed by people with any spiritual orientation. There is space in mindfulness practice, as in mindful poems, for rage and joy, sorrow and gratitude, and for a wide range of different outlooks on life. Eagle Poem
I want to share a poem by Joy Harjo, a member of the Muscogee Nation and a national poet laureate. It can serve as inspiration for a self-healing journey, and the poem reminds us about gratitude, including opening yourself to the earth and to life. Only then can we build better mindfulness habits, practice being more mindful, and feel more present each day.

Midwinter
Yesterday, I was in a bit of a funk; I'd been sitting at my computer too long, and even though it was raining, I went for a walk along the bike path and into some wetlands. As I came to the end of the path, my mood suddenly shifted and I felt a great wave of unexpected happiness. It felt like a re-alignment with myself, a reconnection. The experience reminded me of a poem I'd written and I thought I'd share it. I hope you enjoy my poem "Midwinter" (first published in EcoTheo Collective
