Corn Dollies

The making of corn dollies goes back many thousands of years. It was a Pagan custom and evolved from the beliefs of the corn growing people who believed in the Corn Spirit.

This corn dolly was made by Alec Coker. It consists of a spirally-woven triangular frame with bunches of corn ears at each point. Within the triangle are two heart-shaped plaits joined and decorated with plaited circles and bunches of corn ears. (MERL/86/178)
