A delightful and apparently unnamed variety from the Seoul Flower Market - It looks like the love child of Narcissuss poeticus and Large cupped 'Ice Follies with Its flat open,pleated corona. A wild guess on my part.
G A R D E N I A . carinata deconstructed + a red weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) Unwittingly I disturbed a red weaver ant nest collecting these specimens from a Malaysian tree Gardenia. Wthin seconds I was covered from head to toe in ants and being aggressively attacked, not only do these guys bite, they spray formic acid into the wounds too - It was totally worth it though, a new Gardenia ID for me is a total thrill and the scent of the flowers utterly sublime. #gardeniacarinata…
galpinii deconstructed, photographed in evening light - A scrambling shrub B. galpinii grows in the Imbeza valley around La Rochelle and flowers abundantly in colours varying from a deep salmon pink to brick red.
R O T H M A N I A . capensis, the wild Gardenia is one of the loveliest indigenous South African trees for attracting birds to a garden. It's cream flowers have throats speckled with claret and are exquisitely fragrant. The green fruit is hard and round and brown and soft when ripe.
