■ A portrait of two conscripts of the Latvian Legion (Latvian: Latviešu leģions). The Latvian Legion was a formation of the Waffen-SS created in 1943. Most conscripts of the Latvian Legion did not adhere to or follow National Socialist ideology. They were intent on thwarting the annexation and occupation of Latvia by the Soviet Union.
