Drawing is a skill anyone can learn. November is National Novel Writing Month– or NaNoWriMo. In case you’ve never heard of NaNoWriMo, it’s a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. The idea is that, by setting aside some time to write a little each day, in one month you’ll have written […]

These value scales were done by my 2nd year 2-D kids as a warm-up exercise at the beginning of the school year. Yeah, I know I'm very late in posting them. See if you can find the scale in this first piece by junior Belinda Wu. This is her first year with me and she is coming to me with exceptional skills. She has cleverly hidden the scale in her table tops. Her attention to detail and her shading abilities are remarkable. This next piece by senior Halah Elsahhar is lovely. Her craftsmanship…

VALUE SCALES ADVANCED 2-D ART graphite on bristol board with collage paper frame Senior Samantha Tun is the lone ranger in my Advanced 2-D class, that's 3rd year drawing, painting and design. For her 1st assignment she had 3 days to create a 15 step Value Scale (not an easy task). Using a cityscape is a great place to line up values next to each other, but it was her collage frame that caught my eye. I really like how she combined the old Hymnal paper with the tye-dye pieces. Note also how…

These were done by my Intermediate and Advanced 2-d students as a warm up/drawing review at the beginning of the year. I'm just a little tardy getting them posted. My Intermediate class had to do a ten step value scale and my Advanced kids a 15 step scale. They were allowed to be as creative as possible with their subjects that their scales were put into. The whole thing was done in graphite. Above we have senior Michael Chen (Art II) with this very clean piece, and below is senior Crislyn…

VALUE SCALES 7TH GRADE ART WHEEL - 3RD QUARTER - 2017-2018 graphite & colored pencil accents Let me introduce you to probably one of the most talented 7th graders I had the pleasure of working with last year, Itzel Huerta. The piece above was the very first piece she created for me and when she turned it in I was blown out of the water. Can you find her 3 value scales in the piece? OMG, this is so not 7th grade level. I was absolutely delighted to have her aboard. And lucky for me she is…
