the contents of a science project laid out on the floor

This week Doodle continued working with his timeline art cards, and began Lesson 2, The Coming of Life. I don't think that I have actually posted a picture of the art history timeline cards. They are from TeachersPayTeachers for $3, I figure we will be using them long enough that they were worth laminating. There are 22 three-part cards (so 66 pieces) covering art from the stone age through modern. Right now Doodle is working with cards 1-11. For Lesson 2, I used Miss Barbara's Story of the…

the tree of life is shown in four different colors and sizes, along with two children's books

Evolution is a topic I would always teach my children - no matter which school they went to. It's a topic frequently discussed in our home. I admire and respect the Montessori approach to teaching Evolution (I've enjoyed and learnt a lot previously working with the Timeline of Life) and here are a few Tree of Life materials which I am currently loving. 1. This is a new product and it is absolutely beautiful Wooden Tree of Life. If you like this material please click through for further…

two children's books with pictures of animals on them

I am really flabbergasted about the way DJ has taken to to the Time Line of Life material. I purchased the complete set from Alison's Montessori that comes along with Companion books and Informational cards. DJ has been using the books for Copywork. DJ decided that he wanted this information in his handy notebook and the writing hasn't stopped. He first started copying from the Paleozoic Era. Every now and then he would share some information from the book with me that he found really…

a poster on the wall shows different types of plants and animals

OMG! These things are crazy expensive. Is it worth it to pay $200+ for a timeline? For us, I decided that it was definitely not worth the money for a rising sixth grader who will probably spend two weeks with Lesson 2 this summer. While we plan to visit the grand scheme of things again in the fall, it will be through Big History Project and not Montessori Great Lessons. The coming of life on earth will be the same, so a timeline would be nice. I would definitely pay $50 for a 2'x10' poster…

three children sitting on the floor and playing with their time - lapse books in front of them

This post contains affiliate links. The Timeline of Life presented in the early elementary Montessori curriculum has always been quite intimidating to me. It covers such a vast amount of time and is so large. One can purchase a timeline, but many decide to create their own. I for one am not an artist. The thought of drawing my way through time sounded incredibly time consuming and difficult. I knew my children would not be able to identify organisms in my drawings, because of my poor skills…
