On April 14, 1912, at 11:40 pm, RMS Titanic struck an iceberg. The collision created a series of holes below the waterline on the starboard side. The iceberg was spotted less than forty seconds before the collision. It soon became clear that the ship was doomed. RMS Titanic began to sink bow-first.
