Companion Angle Ruler Flying Geese

(This post is part of a series on ways to use easy angle and companion angle rulers in stitch and flip blocks-) Why would you want to make flying geese from charm squares? If you want a bunch of scrappy flying geese, raid your 5 inch square stash, and get 4 goose "bodies" from one charm square. 1) Fold the charm square in half. 2 1/4" (1-3/4" finished) is the largest set possible from a 5" square. 2) Cut out the first 2 triangles. 3) Open the leftover side pieces, and trim to make 2 more…

I don’t know if it is the former engineer in me or what but I am a sucker for specialty rulers. These two are some of my favorites. the instructions for how to make an origami quilt with squares and triangles on it

Please use flying geese of any size and in any order for this month’s row/strip.. Remember I said you are the “leader” of your strip show. If you choose to let me lead, this month the directions I followed are in this newsletter. 7 Each strip/row can be a different width, but they will all need to be the same length. For this to happen I’ve chosen to add a piece of cream fabric to each end of the strip/row and on each side of the strip. I will use this extra fabric when I’ve finished all the…

Remember my Left Right quilt I shared last week? The basic pattern is available for free from Fat Quarter Shop (get yours here!). As drafted. the blocks have a plain rectangle surrounded by fabric strips. I love the flying geese block so decided to include some inside my blocks - several people asked for the quilt math and a brief tutorial so I decided to put one together! The center of the block - the rectangle - finishes at 9 ½'' x 4 ½'' which means we need to make flying geese units that…
