First, get a paper roll. I cut off about one inch of paper roll just to make it a little bit shorter and then put that off to the side and grab a book. I like to get old encyclopedias from the thrift store and then I rip out a couple pages. Now, cut one of those pages to fit the side of the paper roll and glue that around the edge. That's going to be the inside stem of your pumpkin. With the rest of the pages, get a paper cutter and cut them into about one inch strips. You're going to need quite a few of them.
