Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher who made important developments in mathematics, astronomy, and the theory of music. The theorem now known as Pythagoras's theorem was known to the Babylonians 1000 years earlier but he may have been the first to prove it.

Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who acknowledged scientific reasoning, mathematical calculation, and rationalist ideology. Kant was and still is considered as one of the central figures of modern philosophy. Kant's acceptance and even support of scientific theories and new views helped to establish him as a wise philosopher of his time. Without Kant and other individuals who were willing to accept unusual new scientific theories, the rationalist movement may have never taken place.
