The soaring canopy and dense understory of an old-growth forest could provide a buffer for plants and animals in a warming world, according to a study from Oregon State University published today in Science Advances.

Trees are essential to all life on earth. We’ve all heard it before. However, not everyone knows that age is much more than just a number in the realm of trees. Think of the 1000+ year old Redwoods of California, or the Hemlocks in Virginia which were standing during the Revolutionary War.

Less than 320,000 ha of old-growth forests are now thought to remain in CEE, with 100,000 of those located in Ukraine.
