Negative space art ideas

This was a wonderful drawing lesson my second practicum student taught to a mixed class of Grade 7-9 students last month. It was well received among students and yielded a high success rate! Note- this exercise is severely out of sequence in the assignment; despite being a trained horticulturalist my ability to kill pot plants is legendary, so having found the perfect specimen I really needed to seize the moment. This is a lesson I've posted about before. It is based on artwork by M.C. Escher, and introduces the concept of negative and positive space, as well as negative/positive space reversal.
