Kim Jones is leaving Fendi after four years as artistic director to focus on his role at Dior Men's.

“I think it’s time to do something new,” Mr. Jones said. So his debut collection for the formerly somber men’s wear line is a riot of color and floral motifs.

As he infuses Dior Homme with thoughtful collaborations with leading contemporary artists, creative director Kim Jones, a lifelong collector, turns his distinctive eye to Sotheby's upcoming Contemporary Curated auction (6 March | New York).

When Kim Jones travelled to India a year ago, he didn’t realise at the time just how influential it would be on his work. “I got back and opened the trunk book and was looking at the history of the house and saw these maharajas from the 1920s with [Louis] Vuitton luggage and thought, gosh, that’s just perfect,” explains Jones, the house’s artistic director of menswear.

The collection pays homage to the late Yves Saint Laurent by intertwining old and new tailoring traditions.
