a baby lamb wearing a sweater standing in hay

The last of my trifecta of lambing posts! A couple of years ago, a cold snap hit just as our ewes started to lamb. A shepherd friend loaned me a few of her home-made lamb jackets, and they worked so well that I copied the pattern and am posting it here with her permission. Thanks Val! I used some fleece fabric I had on hand; it was intended to be made into a lap blanket for me, but lambs were cold and needed something warm to put on, so it was repurposed. Cut a rectangle 15 inches wide and…

Twelve Days of Christmas Crafts, Day 7-Goat CoatsOur goats don’t like the cold. Thankfully here in Central Florida it doesn’t get too cold. On occasional cold days we like to put clothes(long sleeve child size shirts) on our goats, otherwise in the morning they’re shivering. They live in a barn but it doesn’t have heat... View Post

Baby goat wearing a homemade coat

To prepare for winter kidding in the frigid temps, I have a stash of baby goat coats on hand. Since I don’t have the knack for sewing, or a sewing machine, when I’m in a pinch I make a few baby goat coats from old sweatpants and sweatshirts. Let me show you how- it’ super easy! #DIY #babygoatcoats #goatcoats #nosewgoatcoat #easyfarmproject

a small white dog wearing a piece of cardboard taped to it's back

Yes, it's finally here...September! The weather is cooling and our pets are ready for a new Fall wardrobe. This is probably the easiest coat pattern you will find. You can make it a lightweight raincoat, or a heavy snow coat with sherpa lining, you can add a hoodie or collar, you can add pockets....ohhhh, the possibilities. eeekkkk!!!! So, what do you need to make this pattern? How about nothing but a paper bag, a pen, a ruler, and some scissors. Oh, and a dog. First things first when making…

a piece of white paper with green lines on it and a line drawn in the middle

the squares on the graph paper are 5x5 cm (1.9x1.9 inch) the horizontal top line is 53 cm (20,9 inch) click to enlarge In earlier posts of august and november 2010 (here and here) I talked about galgo coats my partner and I have been making, to be transported to the shelters in Spain, that care for these abused dogs. Looking around on the internet I noticed that it is not easy to find a nice, simple pattern to sew these coats. So here is model I have drawn from a pattern which was provided…

a goat with a blanket on it's back standing next to a person in a kitchen

As a non-sewer, I will say this is pretty easy! I came across this article searching the net (original article found here). Not sure what I was searching at the time, but decided it would be a good idea to print off the directions and hang onto them. Figured it'd be a good idea to make coats since you never know when something may happen, and I don't like being stuck wishing I would have thought ahead. Plus we do get some pretty cold days/nights during winter and they might be helpful. I…
