Janne Kyttanen builds 3D-printed sofa from a minimal mesh The 3-D printing pioneer used structures of spiderwebs & silkworm cocoons to inform the design of a sofa he printed in a single piece. The prototype sofa created on 3D Systems' ProX 950 SLA device, a stereolithography machine that builds up the shape from a photo-reactive resin by curing it with a UV laser. 6,000 layers each 0.0099 cms thick make up the sofa of 2.5kg, minimising energy usage & transport costs in furniture production.
