Vavara Stepanovna was part of the Contructivist movement which was openly discussed as "a large experiment." They wanted to remove as much human form as possible from design, making theatrical costumes, such as this, nearly impossible to create, seeing as the human form is necessary to make it a piece of live theatre, and not installation art. Fascinating.
