Waterproof Photo Tiles I used some basic white ceramic tiles (20¢ each) and painted a coat of Mod Podge right onto the glossy part of the tile and laid my photo flat. I let them dry for about an hour, then did another layer of Mod Podge right on top of the photo (it dries clear), followed by three layers of clear lacquer. This project does take a few days since lacquer needs about three hours to dry in-between. They are waterproof, they can be used as coasters.

It's Thrifty Thursday and through the month of December I am showing off some inexpensive gift ideas. Today I'm showing a tutorial for DIY Photo Coasters. I have seen a few versions of photo coaste.

My tips: Let everything dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step. I used tiles thick tiles from Home Depot, not the classic thin white ones I used cork on the bottom (adhered with spray adhesive), instead of felt dots I used Polyurethane coating instead of clear spray paint (they are similar) These coasters are not heat resistant, but might be okay for coffee mugs...might.

Tile coasters make fantastic homemade Christmas gifts. However, I am not going to re-invent the wheel here.
