The stone was a gift from Richard Burton, who purchased it in 1968 for $3,000.000. Christie's selling estimate is $300 000 000, but it is anticipated the diamond will sell for much more.

Elizabeth Taylor's iconic Bulgari jewelry is now on display at the Cannes film festival. This emerald and diamond brooch is believed to be one of the first pieces Richard Burton bought for Taylor from the Italian jeweler. Often referred to as the engagement brooch, the actress wore it constantly during the early years of their relationship, including on her wedding day.

The Tayor-Burton diamond. The originalrough was found at the Premier mine in South Africa. It weighed 241 cts until Harry Winston cut it into the 69.42 ct pear shaped it is today.
