A pile of bodies left to rot in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp, found after the camp was liberated by British forces (April 20, 1945). Some 60,000 civilians, most suffering from typhus, typhoid and dysentery, were dying by the hundreds daily, despite the frantic efforts by medical services rushed to the camp.

The last seconds.....this picture truly breaks my heart. I can't imagine the things running through her mind, in the last few seconds of her & her child's life.  This is one of the most heartwrenching pictures I've ever seen.
