Following the Spanish conquest in the 16th century, the Spanish Colonial era, based from European-style furniture, was introduced. "X-frame chair similar to the Renaissance sedia, trestle tables, beds, and chests" were recreated (shown above). In Latin America during this time, both Baroque and Renaissance styles were popular, but were "centered on religious imagery, the building of churches," and an official aesthetic of "Baroque New Spain" included "paintings, interiors, and furniture."
