You were the "bomb" if you owned a banana seat bike, just like today if a young person has a car first everyone wants to mooch a ride :)
Bikes! Sears Wish Book. 1972. I had a purple and white one...can't recall if it was called Miss America or Princess...but it was one of those...man did I feel groovy when I rode mine...LOL I was only 10! Lol Banana seat, streamers out the handle bars, put those color tubes on spokes that make noise as the wheels turned...the 70's had the best bikes and toys! :)
And there it is... My very first bike. Only, mine had a white basket on the front with retro neon colored daisies, streamers, and my dad put those neon rainbow colored spoke decorations on so my bike would jingle as I rode. ;)
Damned cissy bar!!-- Nearly killed myself when my pea coat slipped down the cissy bar & the bike & I went ass over teakettle down Maple St hill, 1971. Missed an entire month of school & my left knee's STILL messed up!! :-(
Mine was this color, same seat, but I had streamers and a with basket on the front with flowers on it, and a bell. =)
Raleigh Chopper - I never actually owned one but some of my friends did and allowed me to ride one sometimes. I coveted one dearly.
Vintage Green Beauty - I had a banana seat bike just like this! Mine was pink and yellow though!
My bike as a kid was a Schwinn Stingray much like this one, except mine was orange and had one of those solid slick tires on the back.
Makes me smile - banana seat - I used to have a bike with one of these on it!!
