В соответствии с принятым в 1940 году стандартом первые серийные Пе-2 красились в защитные цвета - зеле­ный и голубой. Зеленой краской под цвет растительности покрывали верхние и бо­ковые поверхности, а голубой - нижние. Опознавательные знаки - пятиконечные красные звезды в тонкой черной окантов­ке - наносили снизу на крылья, на бор­та фюзеляжа за кабиной стрелка-ради­ста и на наружные стороны килей. Лопасти винтов не окрашивались и были в цвете по­лированного металла.
