This commode is an example of decorative techniques, such as boulle work and ormolu. Boulle work is a technique that uses brass, silver, ivory, pewter tortoiseshell, mother of pearl, and ebony. All of these materials are cut and inlaid in the piece of furniture to create an intricate design. Ormolu is also applied to the feet of this piece. This was a gold veneer placed on the corners to protect them from being damaged.
