Moscow, 1934 - The first ice cream factory in Russia was opened in 1932, after a Russian official, Anastas Mikoyan, visited the USA-tried it-liked it-and decided Russia needed ice cream too! The technology and equipment was imported, and by 1940, they were producing 82K tons! It decreased during WWII, then Increased 20% in the 1950s. It came in two flavors: plain sweet or chocolate. The kind on a stick was called an eskimo--named after the indige­nous peo­ple of the north­ern coun­tries.
