Texture - Blackwork Embroidery
I've often struggled more with rough textures than smooth in my art. So I put a lot of care into figuring out how to stitch the different textures in my Springer Spaniel blackwork embroidery portrait. It's going to be assessed by the Royal School of Needlework, so high standards are expected! Click to learn about my process.
Details - Blackwork Embroidery Portrait
For my Royal School of Needlework blackwork module I'm stitching an English Springer Spaniel portrait. There are a lot of different things to be thinking about at once - stitch pattern, thread thickness, where to break up the pattern. All this is especially important when creating the facial features in my embroidery. Click to read about my experiences with this.

I've realised that just a couple of simple adjustments can make a big difference. * I regularly give my eyes a rest while stitching * I make sure that I've got good lighting so I can see my embroidery clearly without straining. Christmas Crewelwork
Stitched using 6 shades of blue and turquoise crewel wool and lots of different stitches this elegant embroidery featuring penguins was inspired by the idea of a snow globe crossed with an ice crystal. It's been made up into a decoration perfect for Christmas. Click to read more about it.
