John McDouall Stuart Statue was sculpted by Herbert Knoll and erected in Darwin’s Raintree Park in 1974, in honor of the Scottish-born explorer who was the first colonist to traverse the Australian continent from south to north. In November 2006, unknown vandals destroyed the stone statue, leaving only the feet and part of one of the calves. Local artist, Geoff Todd was commissioned to repair and recast the statue in bronze
