my-little-time-machine:  Lillie Langtry, 1882  by Napoleon Sarony // Have been fascinated by Lillie since watching the BBC serial. This gown! That hat! (I admit I was also arrested by the title; not sure why it's called "my little time machine" but since "Into the Lair" is a time travel novel set in Victorian England, I couldn't *not* pin it.)

Silk Calash from 1790. In the 1770s, when huge wigs and hairstyles were fashionable, the ‘calash’ bonnet was worn to protect the high hairstyles from the weather. These collapsible bonnets were made of strips of wood or whalebone sewn into channels of a silk hood. A long ribbon attached to the top front of the hood, held firmly in the hand, allowed the wearer to hold the calash securely, while walking in the wind, rain, and snow....POP SHADES
