The Cattle Egret is a type of heron that spends its time in fields rather than streams. It forages at the feet of grazing cattle or rides on their backs to pick at ticks. Originally from Africa, it found its way to North America @ 1953 and quickly spread across the continent & into S America. Elsewhere in the world, it forages alongside camels, ostriches, rhinos and even tractors - all of which disturb the ground, sending hundreds of insects into the air for the egret.
