Victorian vintage Valentine heart graphics ~ Valentine History Raggedy Ann & Andy
RAGGEDY ANN & ANDY VALENTINES The first Raggedy Ann cloth dolls were handmade by Johnny Gruelle's family in 1915. He published the Raggedy Ann stories in 1918. Her brother, Raggedy Andy, was introduced in the sequel published in 1920. By 1918, the dolls were being mass-produced to meet the growing demand. The stories emphasized kindness, bravery, and friendship. The heart on the chest of each doll makes them perfect subjects for Valentine cards of the period.
