Dr. Mary Susan Moore was born 1865 in Chatham County, North Carolina. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine in 1898 from Meharry Medical Department of Central Tennessee College (now Meharry Medical College). Dr. Moore was the first Black female physician to practice medicine in Texas. In 1903, she and her husband, Dr. James D. Moore, opened a forty-bed hospital, Hubbard Sanitarium, in Galveston marysusanmooremedicalsociety.org

Dr. Jesse M. Mosely was born in 1864 in Texas. He graduated from Meharry College in 1894. He lived in Denison for a number of years. After moving to Fort Worth, Dr. Moseley became involved in the community affairs of his new home town. Dr. Moseley moved to Tampico, Mexico where he practiced his profession for 18 years (until 1915) and was the personal physician of the Governor of Tamaulipas, General Lois Caballero.
