Dr. Mary Susan Moore was born 1865 in Chatham County, North Carolina. She earned her Doctorate of Medicine in 1898 from Meharry Medical Department of Central Tennessee College (now Meharry Medical College). Dr. Moore was the first Black female physician to practice medicine in Texas. In 1903, she and her husband, Dr. James D. Longtime Houston dentist who fought for civil rights dies
Dr. Joseph R. Willie Sr., a dentist who ran a practice in Houston for more than half a century, achieved success in promoting and protecting civil rights for blacks. Willie and some members of the Charles A. George Dental Society of Houston were plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Harris County in 1962 to integrate Sylvan Beach (in La Porte).The plaintiffs won and that lawsuit served to integrate all of the open beaches in Texas

Blanchard Tucker Hollins, M. D. was born in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Jack Yates High School. He graduated from Meharry Medical College with the M. D. degree in 1953. He was the first African American physician board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Texas. He continued to practice medicine until his death.
