Emplacement of the 210 mm gun St. Shamond

It was built in 1672 during the reign of Danish king Christian IV to protect the port city of Kristiansand (founded 1641) by the Danish engineer Willem Coucheron. It is a mighty squat round artillery tower surrounded by not a high bastion wall. In the old times it stood on an island, but now you can walk to the fortress along the dam, built in the second half of the 19th century.

Fort Kvarven located west of Bergen and covers the sea approaches to it's harbor through the Byfjorden. The fort was built in 1895-99 by Swedes due to the growing tensions in Norway, which at that time was with in union with Sweden. Union broke up peacefully in 1905 and the fort become Norway state property.

MG bunker

KaUR (Karelskij Ukrepljenyj Rajon) or Karelian Fortified Area is one of the mighty fortress in vicinities of St. Petersburg. Once it was a northern part of so called Stalin's line, and was intended for defending of Leningrad city (St.Petersburg) from the north. It stretches across Karelian Isthmus from Ladoga Lake to Finnish Gulf's coasts.

Antitank casemate gun of KaUR

85 mm anti-tank gun ZIF-26 is shown on the photo. The system was developed and tested in 1946-47. In the early 1950s all the KaUR was the modernized and rearmed in it's artillery, machine gun machines, signal systems, filter-airing systems, etc. 76 mm L-17 casemate guns were installed here during WW2.

Tuppurasaari island

The Finnish-built lighthouse built in 1924 and is located on the tiny islet Kuninkaansaari (aka Mayachny Island) at the northern tip of Tuppurasaari Island (aka Vikhrevoy Island). The lighthouse is still operational. There are WWII fortifications on the island Tuppurasaari.

Atlantic Wall - Vara battery (Norway)

Huge concrete bunker above 38 sm emplacement on the coast of Skaggerak bay not far from Krisiansand, Norway. Spring 1941 Germans begun construction of four 38 sm Krupp guns battery here, near Movik settlement. 1400 construction workers and POW worked on the site.
