The Needle Galaxy Bruce Waddington from Laguna Beach, California The Needle Galaxy (NGC 4565) is an edge-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices. It lies 31 million light-years away and spans 150,000 light-years. Often called the sky’s finest edge-on galaxy, this object is part of the Coma-Sculptor cloud of galaxies. (5.2-inch Takahashi TOA-130 refractor, SBIG STT-8300 CCD camera, Hydrogen-alpha/Oxygen-III image)

The Cartwheel Galaxy is the result of two galaxies that collided about 700 million years ago. The outside ring is comprised of hot blue stars, formed from waves of density moving outwards following the collision. It's a bit larger than the Milky Way, and is located in the constellation Sculptor. It's about 500 million light years distant, or nearly 3 sextillion miles.
